Omnilore Book Club

To all book lovers,

The next Omnilore Book Club meeting is Thursday, October 8 at 4:30 PM in Room L8 of BCHD. Selection: The Known World by Edward P. Jones

Leslie Criswell will host our discussion of The Known World by Edward P. Jones, winner of the 2004 Pulitzer Prize and recognized as the best book of fiction in the 21st century by the New York Times. The novel tells the story of Henry Townsend, a former slave who, through surprising twists and unforeseen turns of life in antebellum Virginia becomes the proprietor of his own plantation and owner of his own slaves. After his death, his widow succumbs to profound grief and things begin to fall apart. Beyond the Townsend household, the known world also unravels, for the free as well as the enslaved. This book has been praised as allowing all of us a deeper understanding of the enduring multidimensional world created by the institution of slavery. We are still reckoning with it.

Please join us on October 8 to discuss this wonderful book.
