Movies With Friends

Our next Movies with Friends night will be Tuesday, August 18, in Room L8 of BCHD. The doors will open at 5:00 p.m. for socializing, snacks and settling in, and the movie will start at 5:30 p.m.

We will be showing the historic drama Pressure, a character driven saga that retells a pivotal moment in history. Seventy-two hours before D-Day, with the fate of the free world potentially hanging in the balance, what were General Eisenhower, General Montgomery and the leading meteorologists for the RAF and the USAAF talking about? The weather.The ships could not land on the Normandy coast if a storm was raging. And a storm was raging, headed toward the English Channel and inside Allied headquarters, where the experts gave Eisenhower conflicting advice. Would D-Day end the war, or be a monumental disaster?  

Brendan Fraser is terrific (as usual) as General Eisenhower, and the rest of the principal cast, Damian Lewis, Chris Messina and especially Andrew Scott, give riveting performances. None of us would have liked to be in their shoes during this high stakes moment! I don’t want to spoil it by telling you the ending.

Pressure is a British film, in British and American English, and will have closed captions. The runtime is approximately one hour and 40 minutes and will be followed by a discussion of the film’s historic context and the difficult issues the decision-makers faced.

You can bring a snack for yourself, or to share, and a beverage for yourself.
