To Enable Your
Macintosh Browser's "MAILTO" Feature
(Makes clicking on email
addresses on webpages result in sending an email to that
address)
FIREFOX: (downloadable from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-12.0&os=osx&lang=en-US)
- In the
"Firefox" menu (at upper left), click on "Preferences" which
brings up a window panel listing all types of Preferences you
can set or tailor to your liking in the Firefox browsers
- Click
"Applications" (4th icon at top from left)
- Scroll
down to "mailto" in left column
- In
right column of the mailto row, click arrow for drop-down menu
- Select
your email system if you see it listed; then close the
Preferences window/panel (click red circle at upper left) and
you're done.
- If
your email system is not listed, click on "Use other…" at
bottom of list
- This
opens your Applications folder where your email program is
stored; scroll down, find your email program, click on it,
click "Open" at bottom of Applications folder window; then
close the Preferences window/panel (click red circle at upper
left). You're done.
SAFARI:
(Safari comes
pre-installed on all Macintosh computers)
Google
CHROME: (downloadable

Mailto
is a Chrome extension that lets you configure the mailto: links
on Chrome. It currently supports: Fastmail, Gmail,
Hotmail, Yahoo mail and Zoho mail. Once installed, you get
to pick your default email service from this list. Once this is
selected, you are good to go. (Installing Chrome
extensions requires signing up for a free account after
installing Chrome.)
To install
Chrome's Mailto extension,
- Go to
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/category/app/1-communication?hl=en-US
(the "Social and Communication" section of Chrome extensions)
- Click
on the "Email and Contacts" subcategory
- Scroll
down to find "Mailto" and clck "ADD TO CHROME"
- To
connect your specific email system, under the Windows menu at
the top, click "Extensions," then click "Options" under the
Mailto extension; click on your email sysem's name.
