PowerPoint: Beginning and Intermediate
Now is the time to upgrade your presentation skills. Come
to these Omnilore Computer Talks and learn everything you need to
know about how to successfully use PowerPoint.
PowerPoint is the software program to use to organize your
notes and graphics in a simple to understand and easy to
use manner. No more scrambling through your note pages or
juggling pictures for presentation on the screen. There
will be handouts with the talks to enable you to use the
information at home to build your own presentations. The
various versions of PowerPoint will be compared including
OpenOffice’s free version. You are encouraged to come with
questions and problems related to your use of PowerPoint.
The March talk by Rick Spillane will start at the
very beginning — creating a presentation. We will first
create an outline of a talk in PowerPoint, and then build
and organize slides with your discussion points. We’ll
briefly look at customizing your presentation by adding
notes to any slide and working with the slide master to set
a style for the presentation. We will end by showing how to
save the presentation on a flash drive to move it from your
computer to the Omnilore classroom computer.
In April Bob Bragonier will continue by showing you how to
enhance your presentation in PowerPoint. His talk will start
where the March PowerPoint coverage ended and demonstrate
how to add music, graphics (maps, charts and pictures), and
videos keyed to the slide to add interest and information to
presentations.

Where: Los Verdes Country Club, 7000 W. Los Verdes Dr., Rancho Palos Verdes.

Cost: $18.00
Come hear Dr. Elena Rodriguez lecture on The Current and Future State of
Robotic Surgery and Minimally Invasive Surgeries. Dr. Rodriguez specializes in

by the ob-gyn specialty, be assured that Robotics is also used on surgeries from arteries
to prostates, and parts in between. Dr. Rodriquez will address more than one of these areas,
and as is the habit of our speakers, she will answer questions you may have that she has not
specifically identified. She will also describe some of the major differences between
older techniques and the newer ones of Robotics.
Please make checks out to CSUDH, and put them in the Franklin Center Room 7
Forum Committee’s box or send them to: Forum Committee, c/o Diana Cutler (you'll find

Fall Showcase Winners
Take a look at our recent posting of the Fall SDG Showcase Winners.
A Showcase Winner is an Omnilore honor. At the end of
each trimester, everyone in each SDG is sent
an email survey. On the Fall 2009
survey, there was a question at the end that
asked: "Is there any one outstanding creative or
scholarly work developed by a class member in the course of
this SDG that you would like to see showcased on our
Omnilore Website during the following trimester? If so,
please identify it by the name of the author." These are the
winners from that survey.
Take a little time to browse the list and see the type of
presentations that members have found particularly outstanding.
Many of the presentations can be views by clicking on
their DOC, PDF, or PPT links. You'll be amazed at some of the talent
and hard work demonstrated by the examples.

And, The Winner Is...
155 votes were cast at the Omnilore Annual Meeting and Luncheon on
October 30th to determine which of the four owl images submitted in
the Logo Contest should be decided as the winner. The winning
entry, displayed in the graphic to the left, was chosen by 41% of
the votes cast. This images in this form, or in possibly a
modified (resized, colorized, bolder lines, etc.) version, will now
become the official Omnilore Logo to be used in future
correspondence, art work, and the web site.
Our thanks to George Clark for submitting the winning entry.
You can view all of the images that were considered by selecting
